CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In collaboration with Queens University, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is introducing a new service to aid residents in managing the increasing risks associated with cybercrime and digital surveillance. This initiative coincides with National Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October.
The program, titled ‘Protect You and Your Tech,’ provides access to ‘digital navigators’ who can assist individuals affected by crime, domestic violence survivors, and senior citizens. These navigators help users securely separate hacked online accounts and protect compromised devices. Residents can access this service by calling 311.
Bruce Clark from Queens University emphasized, ‘If you’re in danger or think you are a victim of a crime, call 911. For questions about your phone, online accounts, or other concerns, dial 311, press any button, and request to speak with a digital navigator.’
Additionally, a free in-person cybersecurity workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27th, at the Valerie C. Woodard Community Resource Center. Interested individuals can register by calling 311.
