CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The musical duo Kindred the Family Soul, consisting of husband and wife Aja Graydon and Fatin Dantzler, is slated to perform in Charlotte this week. Their work as artists and songwriters focuses on themes of love, family, and resilience.
Fatin and Aja began their music careers in their teens, with Fatin producing for Bell Biv DeVoe at the age of 17 and Aja signing her first record deal at just 14 years old. Their paths crossed in 1997 at The Roots’ production camp, leading to both a creative partnership and marriage the following year. After an unexpected job loss for Fatin, they united to form Kindred the Family Soul, enhancing their reputation at Philadelphia’s renowned Black Lily showcase. Their 2021 album, Auntie & Unc, highlights their journey of partnership and growth over two decades. Their latest project, The Grand Life, released on October 3, 2025, showcases their unique sound with new energy, featuring a critically acclaimed remake of “I Need You” by Frankie Beverly & Maze.
Fans can catch Kindred the Family Soul live at the Booth Playhouse, part of the Blumenthal Arts Center, on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 8 PM.
